Safety Glass
Hi-Lon Glass installs several different safety
products including Tempered, Georgian Polished
Wire, Georgian Cast Wire and Laminated glass.
Tempered glass is glass cut to the required size
and then put through a heating process to harden
it. This procedure manufactures glass that is approximately
four times harder than its annealed version. Safety
comes from this strength and from its unique fracture
pattern. When tempered glass breaks, it shatters
into small relatively harmless pellet size pieces.
There are no jagged edges or sharp shards which
markedly reduces the likelihood of injury.
Laminated glass consists of two or more sheets
of glass held together by a transparent membrane
of plastic (PVN) or resin. When laminated glass
breaks, it will generally remain in one piece,
held in place by the laminate that is sandwiched
between the two pieces.
Wire Glass is 6mm (¼ inch) thick and has
a light gage wire grid pattern in it. When wire
glass breaks, it is held together by the wire incased
inside.
